Starts to listen to it again after knowing her coming back. I know little about her; not after watching her interview and some read up about her in the wiki. She is a great singer. I love her, especially this song, I will always love you.

My pain

This is me. A truth that I am very sad of, bother me most.
I have a class 3 jaws. It means that I have a asymmetry lower jaw and a degree of deficient upper jaw. I was told is it not really that bad if my upper jaw is not this small. Sigh...

You might not think it is that bad. Well, it is not that when compare to the more serious cases. But it really bothers me. I can feel it almost everyday. Due to the asymmetry, I bite myself almost everyday. I bite myself when I am eating and talking. I have to chew slowly and carefully. Furthermore, I can't talk fast. I won't be able to pronounce properly, worse saliva fly out from the opened front teeth; will never dream of singing. Yes, my front teeth doesn't meet at all. Imagine you have to bite noodle with your lower lips and upper teeth, how irritating will that be? Sigh... not to mention my face. It follows the asymmetric bones.

Any cure? yeah, there is. Initially I thought a 2 years of orthodontic would solve the problem. However, I was late, late by 13 years. Fixing deficient upper jaw with only orthodontic method only possible before puberty(around age of 9). For short, Surgery is a must for me. The surgery costs 11k. On top of that I still need 4.5k for the orthodontic. Total, I need 15.5k minimum. Sigh....

I really hope to do it as soon as possible. Do it when I am young. Have to save bit by bit to reach that big number. I have nothing near the middle line. LOL. Just wish either I will have the money now or the surgery can be cheaper. Suddenly I wish I could cyber beg for the money(know it from my CS1105 module. Cyber begging is illegal).

I feel down whenever I look at this pic.

Lesson learnt: Never ever remove any of your K9 tooth. It is the longest tooth; its give the face the 3D look. Face will look flatter if you remove it. Secondly, must see an orthodontist when you are young!

Sigh.....

Wind Surfing & Cable Skiing

Went wind surfing and cable skiing at ECP today. Wind surfing was fun! Too bad there wasn't much wind that day, else it will be more fun.

After that we went for cable skiing. I don't like it; may be is because I didn't manage to travel for more than 100m. Always fall near the starting! haha.. It is very tired to swim back to the shore. I stopped playing after a few attempt; I am too tired(feeling old).

ECP hawker center nice food but a little bit expensive.

Singapore Design Festival 2007

Finally I am back. NUS SUCKS, nearly got me killed. LOL

Went to Singapore Design Festival 2007 at the old supreme court. This is my first time heard of this festival. Paid 3 dollars, got a nice goodie bag with a real cool design on it. Love it!

this room is full of hanging paper punching bag. a bit scary tho

this is utterrubbish collection. key concept is use rubbish as base material and recyclable material

I like the cut glass. I find it elegant. It is a vase from your daily wine bottle (supposedly).

I want to get one of that sofa!!! It is so cool

After that i went to the temple near Tanjong Pagar. Personally i don't like this temple at all. It gives me the feeling that all they care about is money, not Buddha.

Hello ~ This is my new home. I will be staying in the tiny little room for at least a year. Although it is tiny but it is comfortable(because I make it comfortable). You will notice there are 2 mattress. Well, It is because I saw a small patch of stain, not on the top or bottom but on the middle of the bed(I know, it is gross). I stay in the ground floor, there are a lot of insects and lizards visiting my room. It is pretty annoying. However, everything will be fine when I have my wine and vodka store inside my tiny little Frig in my tiny little room. HO HO HO HO

This is my 4th years in Singapore, going to 5th. I really enjoy my stay here, there is always fun and laughter. I met a lot of interesting people and done a lot daring things. 让我青春不留白！I did this flashback not because I am leaving Singapore. It's because I am going to a new chapter of my life. Soon I will be moving to NUS, new environment, new people and new adventure await me. I conclude these 4 years memory with this little thingy.

Kota Kinabalu Trip : Day 1

Yeah... I went for another holiday, again! This time round was Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. I am Sabahan, but I am from Sandakan. My last visit to the capital of Sabah aka KK was 4 years ago. I have to say KK has changed a lot. Not the KK I used to stayed in(I spent 6 months there studying A-level before I flied to SG).

I booked the holiday package from GoHoliday AirAsia. It is cheap, flight ticket + 4D3N accommodation = SGD280. Of course we departed from Senai airport. Having problem going to Senai airport? There is coach service from Kranji to Senai airport(details need to be confirmed). I went there in a 'Malaysian way', email me if you need the 'lobang'.

Flight was delayed from 7:30 am to 10:30 am. This is kinda rare to AirAsia, normally they are on time or early. DO NOT EXPECT good service from the the crew, a smile from them is deemed rare. Just ignore them, you are flying a budget airline.

There weather there is superb. SUNNY, good for sun bathing. Come on gals, is time to show off your expensive shades. DKNY, Dior, Prada, Armani, Oakley, etc.

I must admit that we are very hungry. Ha Ha.. The food were nice especially the fried 'sotong', very fresh. Oh ya, the vege on the right. it is no ordinary vege, only found in Sabah. The local call it 'sayur manis' and the local chinese call it 树仔菜. Dinner cost RM 75 and equivalent to SGD 32+ for 4 person! CHEAP!

Kota Kinabalu Trip : Pulau Manukan

Destination for the very next day, Pulau Manukan! Sea and beaches, my favorite. How to get there? It's easy as A, B and C. Most of the hotel has a one day transport package to all the islands(provide by local tour agency). RM 40 per person, includes return transport from hotel to the jetty, jetty to the island. RM 20 per person for the life jacket, fins, mask, and snorkel.

DO NOT FORGET your glamorous shades and sun tanning oil. Enjoy the speedboat ride, the beach, the sun, and the sea together with all the fish!

There is restaurant on the island(I mean Manukan island not the others). Buffet or A La Carte. DO EXPECT to wait for some time for your order to be served. They(local) work slowly, I mean VERY. I waited 30 mins for a chicken rice and my drink NEVER came, even I had requested for 4 times.

Superb weather! tan me tan me~

Swim, walk around the island, snorkeling+fish feeding(really fun! like swimming in a big aquarium), lunch, snorkeling again without life jacket(so that I can dive in to touch the starfish and sea urchin but not the CORALS!) and lastly sun bathing for hours(I fall asleep).

However.... nothing is prefect. Some part of the beach is not nice, it is rocky, full of dead corals. It was heart breaking. 80% of the corals in the snorkeling area were dead. I am very disappointed in the marine park ranger because they failed to protect the coral. Do you know who is the murderer? is US, human. Corals are very fragile animal(YES they are animal not plant). One kick with your fins can kill a lot of corals or a touch(finger of death!).

Try other island, less developed island, if you are looking for corals. remember to bring your own food!

In the water…
When you snorkel, admire the coral but do not touch it.

For those newbie snorkelers:

Do not stand or rest on corals. They may look unbreakable but you can injure them simply by your touch, even if you are wearing gloves. If you really have to stand, find a spot where there is no coral.
Do not kick up sand with your fins.
Do not swim in shallow water.
Do not feed the fish and never ride the turtles. Swim next to them instead. They love that.
To protect your skin from the sun, wear a T-shirt rather than using oil-based sun cream.
If you have a guide, ask him to give you a briefing on the ecosystem you are about to observe before you dive. It will make the experience all the more exciting.
Take notes and photos, not pieces of coral or shells.
Make sure that the boat captain does not anchor on the reef, and do not throw anything overboard.
If you notice any damage to coral reefs, tell the organisers of the snorkelling trip. This way, you can play a role in monitoring the reefs.

A few practical tips for snorkellers:

Lie flat in the water and keep your legs straight.
Kick from the hips rather than from the knees.
Try not to use your hands and arms.
Keep your equipment under control to avoid bumping into the reef.
Always snorkel with a friend and wear a flotation device if you feel more comfortable.
Before diving, make sure that your mask, snorkel and fins are properly adjusted.

Kota Kinabalu Trip : Ocean Seafood Village

We had seafood in the second night, a must to try when you visit Sabah. Sabah is famous of her abundant marine creature, fresh and tasty. This is place is a heaven to most of the Hong Kong tourists. They love seafood, just like us(Sabahan). And the price is cheaper than in HK.

Those are 'tiger prawn', each is the size of a sausage...

Each tanks, big or small, contain different species....

That is the most expensive fish in the menu.
RM 35 per 100g, that one in the tank may cost you RM 700+ ?
His name is 老鼠斑, Hong Kong-er should know them well.

Four dish: 牛油虾，姜葱沙白，清蒸东风螺，椒盐濑尿虾。
Total? RM200+ (included drinks)

We are hungry again after one day in pulau Manukan.

Thanks + a big hug to my sis, my colleagues and my friends. I am recovering well, and I have achieved 6/6 perfect vision. Special thanks to Dr. Lee :)

remembering the day of surgery:

Register at the counter @ 9 a.m, wait for a pre-LASIK check up. To reassure the condition of your eyes are stable and suitable for LASIK.
While waiting, a nurse came to confirm my identity and ask if I have brought any sun glasses along and was there anyone to bring me home. If not, she will give me a pair of goggles and guide me to the taxi stand after the surgery. I was given anesthesia eye drop right after the check up.
Waited for 30 minutes. Another anesthesia eye drops and antiseptic eye drops. Nurse cleaned my eye area with some yellowish solution (I guess is some chemical solution with high alcohol content).
Lying... waiting for the Dr. Lee. Guess he was adjusting the strength of the laser. I was feeling nervous, really nervous. Started with my right eye, he used surgical "masking tape" to "tape" the eye lashes area and then opened up my eyelid with a metallic equipment. After that, he is used something to touch my eye ball and then something else was covering my vision. "1... 2... 3... begin suction"! That is when I was frighten. I think I have miss out knowing this part. Didn't know that suction is needed in order to cut a an opening on my cornea (so that my eye will not move around during the cutting). Again... something was moving on my eye then vision gone very blur (cornea was lift up).
Nothing much special during the laser-ing. To me it is kind of hard to focus on the red light and it is tiring. Smell something burning.
The operation was done in less then 20 mins? This is the most difficult time when anesthesia starting to fade away. I felt great discomfort and keep tearing.
2 sleeping pills were given which will put me to sleep for the whole day, 5 days MC, and 3 types of eye drops.
The very moment I opened my eyes after the long sleep, miracle happened. It is crystal clear, my vision! :) I need to go back for follow check-up after 1 day, week, month and year.

I have paid SGD 3180.00 for the surgery, SGD 24.00 for the eye drops, SGD 68.00 for the first check-up and SGD 48.00 for the 2nd check-up. I know... it is expensive. However I believe this investment will last at least 20 years.

FYI: Dr Lee has left TTSH. He told me that he's going private. The new clinic is near botanic garden.

My feeling now: a bit nervous...
Things to be done: clean the room, bed and toilet. make sure it is 99% bacteria-free. Stock up food for 1 week (Don't think I will be leaving the house).

MY Steps to LASIK:

One thing must take note is HAVING REALISTIC EXPECTATION. LASIK won't guarantee you a 20/20 or 6/6 (different measurement) vision, although perfect vision is achievable. The acceptable and so called normal corrective vision to be achieved is 7.5 - 9 over 6 (roughly 50-100 degrees).
Consider the need of LASIK
This up to each individual. For me, I don't want spec on my face while I am doing sport and when I am working long hours.

It has been a while since my last post. I was busying with the CNY template of this blog and design another blog for my company (http://outsidethelt.blogspot.com) . There is a tiny Singapore map on top of the blog, that is the new THING. It is not done yet, hopefully it will be available before April.

It sucks : The Altivo Bar @ The Jewel Box

Not every food is tasty; not every place is nice and not every person is good. I am going to blog some of my bad experience that I encounter personally. Here is it, ladies and gentlemen I would like to present you The Jewel Box. For your information, The Jewel Box is located on mt. Faber.

I dined at the Altivo Bar with my colleagues days before Christmas. I really had a bad dinning experience at that restaurant.

There are 3 occasions that I am pissed:

We had our reservation on Friday night. The staff told us that we can have a ride on the cable car at the rate of SGD 3 if we dine in at the restaurant. What happened when we reached there was we have to pay for SGD 10.90 for the cable car because the promotion is only applies on Mon to Thu. Since We made our reservation on Friday, the staff shouldn't tell us the special rate that only applies on Mon to Thu. We tried to argue but they refused to give us the special rate. I feel cheated and so are my colleagues. I thought of cancel the reservation but my colleague's credit card number has been taken down. That's means we will be charged upon cancellation of the reservation. Looks like it is well planned (the trap). In the end my colleagues paid SGD 10.90 for the cable car and one of my colleague and I pay SGD 3 for the 'bubble' snow show. It is compulsory.
Secondly was the ordering. We were looking at the most expensive dish on the menu, it was the "Prawn and steak plate". We ask the waiter what does it has in the dish and he told us there are a steak and 3 BIG prawns according to his description (with the aim of his hands). So we order 5 and I request for mid-rare for my steak. When it came, according to our description the prawns is normal size (I think the waiter never see a tiger prawn before and he has problem describing size with the use of hands) and 3 prawns become 2 prawns. Thus, we asked the same waiter. Guess what did he answer us? He said due to the heavy rain the delivery of the prawn is delayed (Yes, he is joking). So we stare at him, now he sensed the tension and apologized (waiter:"Sorry, sorry") and walked off.
Lastly and the most hilarious. When our drinks came, the waiter (the same waiter as above) leave the drinks on my left hand side and spoke to me. "Can you help me to pass around (the drinks)? " was what he said. I was shocked and I ignored him. I am speechless! Hello! This is not a kopitiam. Even kopitiam's auntie won't ask me to pass around the drinks. This is ridiculous! What the heck I am paying for the 10% service charge? This is the first time I ever encounter this kind of service.

Our conclusion?
Bad service, nasty food, nice view, nice decorations and good ambience.

My suggestion?
I would like to suggest the management of The Jewel Box to train their staff properly and set a better standard of service. Else with the can-you-help-me-to-pass-around kind of service will have to rewrite "Singapore's Iconic Hilltop Destination" to "Singapore's Iconic Jokes".

Where is it located?? Somewhere near the Mayflower secondary. Ask the taxi driver, they should know it. Remember the name of the kopitiam. There are a few of them similar in the area.

Melbourne Trip : Healesville Sanctuary

Went to the zoo. kinda far away, took an hour to reach there. I insist to go to the zoo, while my mum said it's a waste of money, there are nothing special. I told myself that I must go because if i never see a kangaroo and took a picture of it. I am considered never been to Australia! Ha, here is it. Kangaroo!!!

Melbourne Trip : Crown Casino

Crown Casino! yeah! Great place, great food and great game. Play a few round of the slot machine. I find it kind of pointless, sitting there clicking the button and keep inserting coins.
We were looking for the fire show at 10, but we failed. In the end, we accidentally bump into it on the way back and it is going to end. I managed to capture the last bit. pity~ :(

You can feel the heat if you stand around the flame tower.
The tower is 1 to 2 storey tall.

Melbourne Trip : Twelve Apostles

Today we are going to the Twelve Apostles. I am not sure how far is it. I only know we left in the morning and reached home at night. It damn far away!

On our way, that all I saw. Wide, flat land, those are farm.

we stopped for toilet after a few hours of driving.

These are Apostles, total of twelve.
However there is only 8 left.
See the pile of rocks at the bottom?
Those are the remains of a collapsed Apostles.

They looks small yeah?
They are actually 6 to 9 storeys tall.

A small dot on the shore may represent a human.
Just to let you know how big are these rocks.
Same to the wave.

Melbourne Trip : Day 2

Early in the morning we went to the city, because my mom wanted to go to China Embassy for her visitor visa. At there, I saw 3 person practicing tai shi right in front of the building, 2 Chinese and 1 Caucasian. They are members of the "Fa Lun Gong". There were another 2 person distributing a newspaper called "大纪元时报". I took one, because of curiosity. Yeah, I believe I won't be able to see it in Singapore. Why? It contains sensitive issues, mainly political issues. I failed to validate the validity of the contains, thus I don't want to comment about it.

My mum applied the visa with a photo taken when she was in her late 30s. Now she is almost 60. I told her to take a new photo because I don't think they are going to accept it and she might wasted her AUD 50. However she insisted. Guess what? She proven me wrong. They ACCEPTED the photo and the application was successful. Gosh, the rest of us had a joke of the day. After that we went for breakfast at the Cantonese restaurant. We had an authentic Cantonese food. Yummy~

I think the owner is from Malaysia. It says Chinese and Malaysian Food.

It might not look presentable but it is delicious!

And the portion is huge.

We went to the famous Victoria market after our breakfast. It is Huge! I think almost the size of NYP (including the carpark, they hardly build multi-storey carpark. what they have is land).

aww... isn't it beautiful... is a common tree in Melbourne.
I wish I can have it in tropical region.

Melbourne Trip : Day 1

I departed from Singapore at 9:10 pm 10th of DEC and arrived at Brisbane 6:55 am. Almost 10 bloody hours inside the Qantas airplane. Luckily, it was a night flight, I spent most of the time sleeping. I had a pleasant flight with Qantas, the F&B were nice and what I am truly happy with was the banana given before sleep. Why? Because banana has calming effect. A banana before bed will give you a good sleep. I was having trouble falling asleep while my mum was sleeping soundly beside me. What is bad was the toilet, it stinks to the level that passenger sitting near the toilet requested for air freshener.

On the way to Brisbane, I believe below is a desert.

Take note of the forest, trees in Melbourne will be different from Brisbane.
So are the weather, is warm.

Look at the clear blue sky of Brisbane!
oh, I was standing on the MRT station.

Here comes the train and that is my mum.
The train may looks cool outside but it is old and stuffy inside.
The movement of the train is surprisingly smooth, I mean it, is very smooth.
If you have chance to ride on this train please do remember to push the open-door button.
HAHA... I was standing there waiting to alight before a local press the button.

After i reached Brisbane i had to rush from the international airport to the domestic airport by the train. I flied off at 8:50 am and reached Melbourne at12:10 pm. Another 3 bloody hours in the plane. This flight was just like the flight I took to Sabah, home. It's boring.
Melbourne is... COLD. When i stepped out of the airport, I thought the taxi stand is air-conditioned. I was wrong, it was about 16 degree. Melbourne was having a cold summer.

Going to land on Melbourne, HURRAY!

Right after i arrived we went straight for food at Preston.
A Cantonese restaurant.
The food was great, I had 3 bowl-full of rice or partly because of the weather.

Guess what is inside the bucket? It is rice!
They serve rice with a bucket to keep it warm.
Eat all you can, it will be refilled when it is finished.

A victorian style house, don't look down on it.
It may cost 0.5 million!! It is an antique.

Is common at there, you can always find them in the street.
However is not common in the city area. This is not city area.

I didn't not stay in a hotel, I stayed will my brother in a resident area in Bundoora. Bundoora means windy to the locals, the area is always windy. Over there, they pay rent in a weekly basis. I walked around the neighbourhood. It is very beautiful, all you will see is beautiful flowers and other plants that cannot find in tropical region. The most amazing was, you can see sunset just in front of the house. Believe or not, i am not staying anywhere near the sea or up on the hill.

Chilled out with Michelle and Chai Shuan @ Pitch Black last night. We ordered forgot-what-berry tea for Michelle (Michella complaint that it was Rasberry!), Nutella milk shake for Chai Shuan and Teh Tarik milk shake for myself.

Found this little stall at the Tang's market place. It catches my attention because the Japanese looking owner (From their accent, I guess they are Japanese). I love octopus balls. It is one of the foods that always appear in the comic books, just like the red bean bun in Doraemon comic.

Look for this stall!

Thus I bought 5 for 3 dollars. It was great, it taste different than what I normally had. Yummy~

Hey...is food! I love food! I am particularly fussy about food. Some of my friends find me irritating, LOL. I guess is due to the influences of my parent (my parent cook together everyday) and my hometown (majority are cantonese, contonese know the best food. Myself is a Hakka).
I first known of this restaurant from channel.....U? (can't remember) I always wanted to try it out. At last I am here, looking at their menu.

The place give me a feeling of home. I felt like I am having dinner in the living room. 好此住家菜

I ordered beef Stroganoff(beef rice), Borsch(beef and onion soup) and Pelmeni(meat dumpling with sour source) and a glass of Kvas(trandtional sparkling). Beef Stroganoff taste a bit like Indian beef curry but not spicy and Kvas taste abit like 黄酒(chinese rice wine) with sparkling. Worth to try, it is nothing similar with any asian or western food.

Discovery Singapore : Haji Lane

Have you ever been to Haji Lane lately? This is my second time here and it surprise me. In the lane, there are no longer only old fashioned and historical bulding. New, young and artistic elements are slowly replacing the dying business here. Buildings are repainted and renovated in their own unique style/personality. Young people (perhaps mostly are artists/designers) are spreading their roots here.

Guess! Is this a studio or a lounge? Well... it is a boutique!

The automatic door it just next to the sign "3". Here I save the comments on the fine pieces they are offering. I am not really a fashion guy. I don't think it is just an ordinary piece of fabric.
Because I asked for a piece that will cost me....130? I wonder if the owner is a cantonese, the number "3" has the same pronunciaiton with the word "cloth".

Another voguish boutique.

Besides boutique there is a place to chill out. It is place where you can have movies and drinks in an aesthetic ambiance! PITCH BLACK. On the second storey, is a mini cinema loaded with the latest blu-ray™ technology (blu-ray™?).

Discovery Singapore : Arab St

I found some interesting places around Arab st. First of all, an antique shop near the mosque. It filled with lots and lots of old toys, special edition of coca-cola, media devices, sign board, etc. The decoration of the shop is cosy and unique. You can feel the passion and enthusiasm of the owner.

I like this cash register! It costs 350.

This Coca-Cola Collection is amazing

There is a mini cafe at the back of the shop. The shop keeper show me the menu and allow me to take a photo on his very old vespa. He told me that they do arrange for mini party at the cafe for FOC! I definately don't mind to have a drinking session in here. The ambiance is supreb.

Lastly, the shop named "Ah gong shop", what a nice name. Tired of conventional shopping centre? This place definately worth a visit!
